Q. When will recruitment commence?
A. Qantas Apprentice recruitment commences 25th September 2009, and we will accept applications online until 11th October 2009.
Q. How do I apply for an engineering apprenticeship?
A. Go to 'How to Apply' and follow the instructions.
Q. Do I need a UAI to apply?
A. No, an apprenticeship does not require a UAI.
Q. Does Qantas Engineering offer work experience?
A. Unfortunately due to safety and security requirements we are unable to provide work experience opportunities in operational areas of our business.
Q. If I have been unsuccessful previously, can I apply again?
A. Yes, you are able to reapply.
Q. Do I need to complete Year 12 to apply?
A. The minimum requirement to apply is the completion of Year 10. However, it would be beneficial to have completed Year 12.
Q. What subjects do I need to study in school to help me gain an apprenticeship with Qantas?
A. Sound passes in Math, English, Sciences and/or Technics subjects would be beneficial.
Q. Does Qantas have a quota on Adult Apprentices?
A. No.
Q. Are applications for apprenticeships open to anyone?
A. Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 15 who is physically fit to undertake the apprenticeship.
Q. If I have completed a previous apprenticeship can I still apply?
A. If you have completed a trade, other than an aircraft trade, you can apply.
Q. What are the stages I will go through to be selected?
A. The selection process after your initial application, will see you being invited to attend an assessment centre, interview and complete medical and security screening.
Q. Will Qantas pay my travel and accommodation expenses to attend testings and interviews?
A. During the recruitment process travel and accommodation expenses will be the responsibility of the applicant.
Q. How will I be contacted if I’m accepted for testing and interviews?
A. Contact throughout the selection process will be mainly via email, although we will call you if required.
Q. Where are the tests and interviews held?
A. The majority of tests and interviews are held in Sydney and Melbourne with some interviews also conducted in Brisbane.
Q. What test will I have to complete?
A. The assessment test consists of Numerical Computations, Spatial Recognition and Mechanical Comprehension.
Q. Can I post in my resume?
A. No, we only accept applications online at the Qantas Careers Apprentice website
Q. Where will I be working if I obtain an apprenticeship?
A. Melbourne and Brisbane apprentices are located at the Qantas Maintenance Facility in their respective states. Sydney apprentices who are undertaking the Aircraft Trade courses are located at the Qantas Maintenance Facility at Mascot but will spend approximately 9 months of their apprenticeship at the Qantas Heavy Maintenance Facility at Avalon in Victoria.
Q. Where will I live during my time in Avalon?
A. Qantas provides share accommodation at no charge in Geelong as well as a range of services to assist you whilst you undertake the practical training at Avalon.
Q. I’m an overseas student studying in Australia or I’ve just arrived in Australia but do not have a permanent residency visa, can I apply?
A. All applicants must be Australian Citizens or hold a permanent residency visa when they apply. New Zealand citizens can apply if they have lived in Australia for 6 months at the time of application.
